About Us
Alyson McKean-Bown (Aly) decided she wanted a creative career after working in juvenile corrections and probation, and as a high school counselor. Not knowing anything about retail but wanting more creativity in her life, she stepped into the great unknown and opened the doors to Paisley Skye in 2010 in Woods Cross, Utah. The shop was moved to historic Bountiful Main Street in 2012 and was located there until its doors closed in 2023 when Aly decided to focus more on her family and a new career as a mental health counselor. Not wanting to close the doors entirely, she moved the business to her home and now runs Paisley Skye as an online store and also offers private shopping appointments.
Aly has a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State, a MA in School Counseling from University of Phoenix, a certification in Residential Planning and Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and an MA in Mental Health Counseling from Bradley University. Aly has been married to her husband Matt for over 20 years, has one son in heaven, and a set of bubbly baby boy/girl twins. She lives on a hobby farm and loves to spend time with her scruffy shop dog Willie, goats, horses, and chickens. Her hobbies include gardening, farming, traveling, making goats milk soap and candles, quilting, and spending time with her family. Aly also loves all things vintage and also runs a sister shop called The Vintage Farm Girl that specializes in vintage inspired and farm inspired fabric.
The name Paisley Skye came from Aly’s favorite travel destination, Scotland. The town of Paisley helped make the paisley pattern famous around the world and the Isle of Skye is Aly’s favorite region of Scotland.
